2 Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
When we’re waiting for something we want to happen like that promotion, that dream to come true, that book to be published, it surely does feel like a thousand years has gone by waiting. And, I don’t know about you, but in those waiting times, I usually find myself unhappy. Worried that it won’t happen and thinking things will be so much better when and if it did. I imagined I would finally feel totally fulfilled and complete. My life would be perfect. But the thing is, our lives being perfection isn’t part of God’s plan for us. A life with no struggles won’t make us grow. Faith in adversity makes us grow. We don’t know God’s plan for our lives. We pray, seek direction, and try to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, but we will never be able to see our lives mapped out – and that scares us. But we need to trust that God knows what He’s doing and that it’s for our own good, just like He told us in the Bible. Remember, we were created by Him and for Him. We are His family. Our final destination was planned to be with Him for all eternity. What happens to us while we’re here on Earth is shaping us for the works He has planned for us there. We may or may not see our dreams come to pass while we’re here, but he promised to complete a good work in us.
So, I urge you continue to pray and have faith that God will bring to pass the things you’re hoping for, because he is a good God and wants to give us the desires of our hearts. But if it doesn’t work out the way you thought it would, have faith that God knows what He’s doing. And enjoy the time He’s given us here. In the perspective of eternity, it’s a very short time. I love the verse Psalm 62:6 “He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.” We can have peace and joy no matter what comes our way because the Father is bigger than what’s going on around me and He’s asked us to trust Him. We’ll be glad we did.
