James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
If there was ever a time this verse was meant for, it’s now. With as polluted as our world is (and I’m not talking about the environment), it’s sometimes hard to not allow ourselves to be contaminated, too. But I think the way we avoid it is to shine our light. Shine it so brightly that there’s no room for anything else. If we set our minds on doing good for others, speaking positivity, being a friend, adhering to the fruits of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control, polluted thoughts and ideas will naturally be repelled. Those polluted thoughts just won’t seem appealing to us anymore. We’ve found something better and know it as truth.
But the key is to ‘keep’ our minds set that way. This means staying connected to God. Reading your bible, prayer, connecting with other believers, and encouraging others, are some of the things that will keep our mindsets on the right path.
There are days my mind falls ‘off the wagon’, and I can feel it. It feels like I’m lost and things seem hopeless – and I hate it. I know when I’ve drifted too far, and I come running back home. We were made by Him, for Him. There’s a connection between God and his children that we, as Christians, can’t deny. Let’s keep that connection to our heavenly daddy strong, and we’ll be stronger, happier, and keep ourselves purer as a result.
